Students take on Math Challenge

This school year MSA-3 students participated in the 2015-2016 MATHCOUNTS national competition.

This school year MSA-3 students participated in the 2015-2016 MATHCOUNTS national competition. Ten students (two 6th graders, three 7th graders, and five 8th graders) were nominated by teachers. The students were committed to doing well during the competition therefore they practiced math problems almost everyday. They had a fun time and were challenged to complete all math problems in a timely manner. During the first round students completed 30 problems in 40 min. In the second round students had to complete 8 problems in 30 minutes. During the last round, students worked in teams of 4 to complete 10 problems in 20 min. For some students, this was one of the most challenging experiences they have had with mathematics but they were happy to have participated.

There is no doubt this experience has led them to a greater awareness of mathematics and hopefully these students will continue to look for and solve challenges in the years to come.
