Parents Visit Loyola Marymount University

Over 200 Magnolia Science Academy parents and students joined us for our first Magnolia University Day at Loyola Marymount University (LMU)!

Over 200 Magnolia Science Academy parents and students joined us for our first Magnolia University Day at Loyola Marymount University (LMU)! As part of our Parent College Program, we planned a day where parents and students can visit a prestigious University and learn about what steps they need to take to prepare when their child applies.

The day started off with a keynote address from LMU alumna, Kelly Gonez, who spoke on the importance of going to college and reaching for the stars. Kelly’s keynote was followed by walking campus tours translated in English and Spanish by current LMU students, financial aid and admission requirements introductory session, an LMU student panel that gave key insight into the college acceptance process. We capped the event with a raffle with LMU gear as prizes. As the day ended, families left with excitement and huge smiles on their faces knowing that college is not just a pipe dream, but that with the right support systems it can be a reality.

University Day was a huge success and we couldn’t do it without our amazing Parent College team who work with our MSA parents in preparing them for their child’s transition from High School to College. We also want to thank our MSA College Counselors, Staff, and Coordinators of the event, including Loyola Marymount University, for valuing this experience and making sure that our families are well equipped to embark on this journey.

Next stop, college!
