Distance Learning ProgramMagnolia Public Schools is committed to providing FREE internet and is working directly with several providers to expedite the process and get our students online as we prepare to launch our Distance Learning program. If you are in need and have not received a Chromebook, several of our Magnolia schools are taking appointments to schedule a drive through technology pick up.The Distance Learning program will be launched on:
- March 30th for MSA’s 1-8 and MSA-Santa Ana
- April 6th for MSA-San Diego
Distance learning includes both virtual and non-virtual means of providing education. Despite school closures due to COVID-19, we are committed to continuing to provide high-quality education to all students. According to the CDE, distance learning means “instruction in which the student and instructor are in different locations. This may include interacting through the use of computer and communications technology, as well as delivering instruction and check-in time with their teacher. Distance learning may include video or audio instruction in which the primary mode of communication between the student and instructor is on-line interaction, instructional television, video, telecourses, or other instruction that relies on a computer or communications technology. It may also include the use of print materials incorporating assignments that are the subject of written or oral feedback.”What to expect from distance learning:
- Students will have approximately 2-4 hours of school work to complete each day.
- Assignments will be sent to students via Google Classroom.
- Teachers will regularly communicate with students about their work and will hold weekly Google Hangouts in order to answer any questions and provide additional support. Teachers will also be available through email to answer any questions. Please allow 24 hours for a response.
How you can support your students:
- Review the Parent Technology Guide for Distance Learning to ensure you understand the expectations for your student's appropriate use of technology and online resources.
- Provide a designated location for your student to complete their schoolwork each day. This can be a desk, the kitchen table, or another distraction-free workspace.
- Familiarize yourself with Google Classroom and ask your student(s) to show you their completed assignments each day. Review this Parents' Guide to Google Classroom as well as these resources:
- Google Classroom How to’s for Students & Parents
- Contact your students’ teacher if you need additional support accessing any of the online materials or understanding the curriculum. Teachers will return all emails within 24 hours.
- MPS Single-sign-on for online programs www.clever.com/in/Magnolia will be used as a backbone for access to all digital programs. When students log in at home, they’ll have access to the same edtech programs they use in the classroom.
