LA School Report: U.S. News ranks America’s top public high schools — and for the first time, charters dominate Top 10
U.S. News and World Report has released its 2017 rankings of America’s public high schools, and for the first time ever, the majority of the schools in the top 10 are charters. |

![]() Magnolia Science Academy-1 (Reseda) is the top charter high school in L.A. Unified—the second year in a row a Magnolia school achieved this distinction. Magnolia Science Academy-2 (Van Nuys) was ranked in the top 6 percent of the 22,000 U.S. high schools U.S. News and World Report analyzed. |
Who Do You Want to be When You Grow Up?
![]() On March 28th and 29th, MSA-3 Carson hosted Los Angeles County Office of Education Board President, Mr. Douglas Boyd and Board Member, Mr. James Cross during their Career Day! The board members walked through the campus as students inquired about careers and colleges. On Career Day, many professionals enlightened our scholars about their jobs, careers, and the paths they took to get there. More importantly, they were excited to have had the opportunity to discuss new and exciting career possibilities to our students. |
A Night Under the Stars
![]() On the weekend of March 18th and 19th, eighteen juniors and seniors from MSA-3 Carson went on an overnight field trip to the Mount Wilson Observatory. This is the first time that the observatory, working with Carnegie Institution of Science, has conducted a trip of this kind. Our MSA-3 students immersed themselves into the experience, and learned a lot about astronomy and science through inquiry based activities. |
Girls Who Lead
![]() On March 18th, MSA-8 Bell was full of young women during the annual Girls Leadership Advocacy Mentoring (GLAM) workshop. GLAM empowers young women to advocate for themselves and others while making positive life choices so they can become the leaders we all know they can be! |

MPS Spring Symposium

Mendler was very inspiring, engaging, and interactive as he spoke about “Working Successfully with Difficult Students,” the focus of his book “The Taming of the Crew.” |
